Skimming Primrose Hill, Swiss Cottage lies to the north-west of Regent’s Park. Its distinctive name came from the Swiss chalet-style tavern built next to a tollgate there in the 1800s, on the newly constructed Finchley Road. Now lively and bustling, benefiting from its excellent transport links. A popular draw are the big-name stores of the O2 centre, the cinemas and theatres and the grade II listed library has a gallery that plays a central role in the local art scene. The leisure centre is currently under major redevelopment and on completion will attract even more visitors to the area.
