A TRAGIC tale of love, lust and teenage gang crime has come to Coram’s Fields for the Bloomsbury gardens’ annual open-air Shakespeare performance.
Romeo and Juliet tells the violent story of the warring Montague and Capulet families in the city of Verona.
Two teenagers from each family fall in love – but cannot marry for fear of upsetting their elders.
Shakespeare’s tragedy was famously recreated into a gun-toting Hollywood blockbuster starring Leonardo DiCaprio by the American director Baz Luhrmann.
But the Principal Theatre Company’s production promises to be more traditional and family-oriented.
Theatre director Paul Gladwin said: “The show will appeal to kids from six to adults of 96.
“The great thing about the play is that the first half is nearly all comedy, then it all turns on its head and becomes the fantastic tragedy that everyone knows and loves.”
