The Open Air Theatre in Regent’s Park has been delighting audiences since 1932. The theatre presents a selection of plays and shows every summer from May to September, every night, Sundays included. There is always at least one Shakespeare – the theatre is home to The New Shakespeare Company – plus a musical and also a production aimed at families and children; in recent years The Wind in the Willows has been a great success with children and adults alike. On Sundays there are special one night shows and these have featured the likes of Jimmy Carr, Harry Hill and KT Tunstall among others. Some other famous names that have appeared at the Open Air over the years include: Dame Judi Dench, Vivian Leigh, Jeremy Irons and Natasha Richardson.

The theatre has over a thousand seats steeply raked in a tight semicircle, giving an intimate feel and good sightlines for all in the audience. The auditorium and stage are completely open to the sky and the elements; however, performances are rarely abandoned due to the weather, and never cancelled before the advertised time. The theatre has one of the longest bars in London and offers a huge range of food drink including barbecues, meals, even a personal hamper can be arranged. There are lawns and picnic tables under the trees for theatregoers to enjoy a meal al fresco before the play or during the interval, and the bar stays open after the evening’s performance.
