The Review - THEATRE
Published: 27 November 2008

In the wings

AHEAD of our Christmas round-up next week, the Old Red Lion is the first to put the tinsel on the tree with the festive comedy Comfort and Joy.
Mike Harding’s spirited (read “intoxicated”) play about a traditional family gathering of grumpy uncles, odd neighbours and superfluous socks ought to strike a chord with even the hardest-hearted Scrooge. From December 2-6.

FOR something completely different – and distinctly less family oriented – Ectera Theatre hosts the UK premiere of the Amercian gay comedy 3 Way. As the title might suggest, the play is not afraid to take a few risks. Told over a single night of drunken debauchery, 3 Way is on until December 7, directed by Amna Khwaja.

ALL friends again after their histrionic power struggle last month, theatre directors at the Lion and Unicorn are launching a season of Chekhov Short Stories.
Victor Sobchak’s previous Chekhov offerings have been gems – and this production could be worth fighting for too. Matinées from November 28-30 at 4pm, December 12-14, 19-21; and 7.30pm shows on December 1 and 8.
