The Review - THEATRE

In the wings

IT’S 1669, the era of Puritans’ suppression is over, and women are allowed on stage for the first time. Step up five feisty females, including Nell Gwyn, whose career path from orange seller to actress to King’s mistress would outglitz even today’s reckless celebs. Playhouse Creatures, written by April de Angelis and directed by Zizi Sulkin, is at Camden’s Theatro Technis from Tuesday 9 until Saturday October 13.
Tickets are £11 (£9 concs).

THE original tale of debauched Parisian lovers, Paul Verlaine and Arthur Rimbaud, and their road trip to London circa 1872 gets a modern day reworking, as they head to the big smoke on the Eurostar hoping to meet their lunatic idol Baudelaire.
Set in present day Camden, in the house the two actually stayed at, it remains to be seen whether they’ll still be smoking hashish and shooting at each other. The performance, directed by Johnny Brown, is free. It runs for two nights at 8 Royal College Street on October 7 and 8, 4pm.

OYSTER cards, automated banking, bluetooth, self checkouts, podcasts – today’s technology is enough to confuse even the most tech-savvy IT geek.
Which is why Spare Tyre productions has made a film – with a cast aged between 60 and 85 – about the barriers old people face from rapidly developing and depersonalising technology. Dangerous Games is released on DVD with 100 copies distributed to resource centres and charities across Camden.

BURLESQUE nights are the new clubbing apparently, but with the capital overflowing with corsets and bright red lipstick how do you choose?
Festival of Sins: Pride promises aerial bondage, erotic comedy poetry and alternative fashion shows among other treats.
The fun kicks off Sat October 13 at The Purple Turtle,
61-65 Crowndale Road, £7 (£6 with flyer).
