It’s Fringe theatre time!

FOR those labouring under the impression that you have to go all the way to Edinburgh to catch the best in fringe theatre and comedy, help is at hand.
The annual Camden Fringe festival neatly disproves the paradoxical theory that you have to travel hundreds of miles to Scotland every August if you want to be entertained.
Running from July 30, the Camden Fringe will ply audiences with up to eight shows of mirth, performance, new drama and storytelling every day until August 26.
Picking up on just a few of the acts – the Ham Yard Tourists offer their brand of eccentric ‘mistimed’ comedy, impressively- young comedian Matthew Parker makes observations on his salad days, while Three Cheese Salad promise to raise chuckles with a barrage of irreverent sketches.
Meanwhile, comedian Broderick Chow fills the boots of a boy named Maddox Jolie (ring any bells?) in a 2019 Tokyo wasteland, charged with the small task of saving the world.
There’s also flamenco, new theatre in the form of The Invitation, a rendition of Jean Genet’s Maids, and Kevin Dewsbury’s wedding reception – an intriguing invitation that should be investigated.
The prize for best title though must go to the Nasty Sweets’ production The Terrible Train of Tarot Terror (pictured), a cautionary tale about card-based fortune telling. Book now for the “ride of your afterlife”.
