In the wings

BOOKING is now fully open for the Open Air Theatre’s 75th Anniversary Season. Created in 1932, the Open Air Theatre is celebrating this special year with an extended programme including two Shakespeare productions, two musicals, a children’s production, a variety of Sunday concerts and a selection of small scale comedy, drama and music.

PROTO-feminist Annie Besant, from the match-girls’ strike, is at the centre of a play set around the life of Mahatma Gandhi.
In India she finds a new family and a new cause. Gandhi hails her as the leader of the Congress Party after she courts imprisonment for promoting Indian Home Rule.
The show has a five-day run at the Cochrane Theatre from May 22.

TWO black comedies about life on the mean streets of London is showing at the Old Red Lion. Sex, violence, deception and fear collide in playwright Ed Hime’s latest production.
The London Play is on until May 24.
