THE CROW By RICHARD OSLEY & CATHERINE ETOE

Spurs heroes know their stuff

IT’S not often I praise Spurs players but two of those blighters deserve special mention this week.
Firstly, Jermaine Jenas – the man considered not good enough for Arsenal, so he joined Tottenham. It takes a player of true quality to pick his spot in the side netting when faced with a gaping, open goal – like JJ did against Newcastle.
I’ve tried the trick down the park myself but I always end up blooming well putting the ball between the goal posts.
No wonder Jenas gets in the England team and I’m not even good enough to play for Grimsby. Aim for the Gunnersaurus next time. It works for Thierry Henry.
Second Spurs hero is Aaron Lennon, the shaven-eyebrowed Kris Kross wannabe who saved us all from the horror of Robbie Keane’s guns for fingers celebration in the same match.
Realising the imminent danger when Keane scored, Lennon grabbed him and held him tight until the prospect of that toe-curling somersault thing was over. Well done, little one, at least you’ve done one thing right.

YOU know it’s time to abandon your ambitions when the man with a face even his mother does well to love makes your team look like a reserve side put out by the Women’s Institute.
So if I can’t bear to see Lee Bowyer get the better of my Spurs up in the Dog, sorry Goldfish Bowl, how would I like to travel 400 miles in a pick-up truck to watch a part-time goatherd from FC Cowpat of Moldovia beat my boys?
The answer, dear reader, is I wouldn’t and neither should you.
Oh alright, I’m just miffed because chinless wonder Glenn Roeder and Co made Spurs look as stylish as a pair of Alan Shearer’s shiny trousers.
Still, every cloud has a silver lining and rubbish Birmingham provided that on Saturday.
Don’t know about you, but I would love it, I mean really love it, if Chelski lost their bottle right at the last hurdle.
It might distract everyone should Spurs lose theirs.

UPDATE - FOLLOWING ARSENAL'S CHAMPION'S LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL QUALIFICATION

Arsenal still in Europe? Incroyable!

HE comes from Senegal. He lost to Arsenal.
Patrick Vieira will always be a hero to me. That FA Cup semi-final goal against Spurs will live long in the memory. The way he often single-handedly got the better of Man United will also not be forgotten.
But I wonder how the great man must be feeling now. His unhelpful moans that Arsenal were going nowhere in Europe were never great for team spirit when he was at Highbury. His chances of winning a Champions League medal must have been in his head when he signed for Grimsby last summer. But look at the Gunners now.
The pride of north London. The pride of England. Beating Beckham’s Real Madrid and Vieira’s Juventus more than makes up for league losses to West Brom and Middlesbrough.
Arsenal might not go all the way but nobody thought that they would still be in the Champions League in late April. Let’s hope they are in it in September. They deserve to be.

LET’S hope the woman in Pavel Nedved’s life gets to work with the salt and pepper pots this week.
Because if ever a footballer needed someone to sit down and explain the offside rule to them it is that golden haired muppet.
On Saturday, I thought Spurs would never make it in Europe after allowing the man with a face even his mother does well to love make them look like a reserve side put out by the Women’s Institute.
But forget Lee Bowyer, if the headless chickens of Juve can get that far, there might be life in old dogs like Edgar yet.
Still, it gave the Arsenal defence the chance to emulate Dixon, Winterburn, Adams and Bould – at least they’ve got the arm waving bit sorted.
Back home, my Spurs gloom was lifted by rubbish Birmingham.
Don’t know about you, but I would love it, I mean really love it, if Chelski lost their bottle at the last hurdle.
It might distract everyone should Spurs lose theirs.

CATHERINE Etoe, don’t be so ungracious (Crow, March 30). Arsenal are the sole representatives of this country in the Champions League and have performed well against Italy’s leading team.
If Spurs reach the Champions League for the first time they may have a “glory night” to reflect on.
A decade of patience may be rewarded, and you never know Spurs may achieve something meaningful, as they do once every half century.
