A misuse of power to suspend Ken

• As the person who was instrumental in bringing the Anne Frank exhibition, the Anne Frank Declaration and the play about Anne Frank and her stepsister Eva Shloss to City Hall I am appalled by the decision of a un-elected panel to suspended the Mayor of one of the world’s great cities.
Most of my Jewish friends including Anne Frank’s step-sister Eva Schloss, an Aushwitz survivor, are great admirers of Mr Livingstone’s work to tackle racist and anti-semitic attitudes in our society.
I remember during a showing of the play about Eva and Anne Frank at City Hall last year Ken was visibly moved. His work to bring divided communities together through friendship and dialogue is commendable. So to allege that Ken Livingstone is anti-semitic is in my opinion a great injustice to a man who has devoted much of his political career to fighting the hate merchants. There are many things one could attack the Mayor on and I have done so myself in the past, although he has proven time and time again he was right and we were wrong – congestion charging and the Oyster card scheme being two examples, but to say he is anti-semetic because of an ill-judged remark to a Jewish journalist and to suspend him for it is a real misuse of power.
It is the three people on the standards panel who took this ridiculous decision who should be suspended and not Ken Livingstone.
