Newscaster and CNJ ask: Will you halt council house sales?
THE New Journal doorstepped Housing Minister John Healey in Brighton on
Monday night and found that he is
investigating the Town Hall’s controversial council home sales bonanza.
Chased around the Labour Party conference, Mr Healey was finally cornered on Monday night when he was asked the question: do you agree with Camden’s property auctions?
He ummed and ahhed a little bit, clearly cautious about making government policy on the hoof – but then revealed he planned to “look very hard” at Camden Council’s much-criticised method of raising money.
Mr Healey must have felt stalked as he was repeatedly quizzed on the subject at fringe meetings and confronted by the same faces.
By Monday night, he had been asked the same question not only by the New Journal but also by Labour delegates from Camden and even BBC journalist Peter Sissons.
While thousands remain on the waiting list for homes, Lib Dems back in Camden insist they are only selling them off because of a lack of investment from the government.
