Judge’s son drugs fine

THE son of former Health Minister Patricia Hewitt MP was fined £250 yesterday (Wednesday) after pleading guilty to possessing cocaine.
Nicholas Hewitt Birtles, 21, whose father is Judge William Birtles, admitted possessing £150 worth of the drug when he was questioned by police in Camden Square, Camden Town, on September 20. He later tested positive for cocaine at Kentish Town police station.
During a short hearing at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court, Hewitt Birtles, who works in telesales and lives with his parents in Camden Town, issued a statement through his lawyer apologising for the publicity the case has brought to his family.
