Legal bid over 'garden morgue'
PLANS to create a mortuary within touching distance of back
gardens in Tufnell Park look set to be challenged in the courts.
Neighbours of the proposed mortuary, owned by funeral directors
Green Endings, say they are seeking legal advice regarding Camden’s
decision to give the plans the go-ahead last month.
Robert Brighouse, a publishing director from Burghley Road whose
home will overlook the proposed site said: “Acting on behalf
of a number of residents I am in the process of engaging the
services of a solicitor to look into the possibility of overturning
the decision taken by the council by a judicial review.”
Mr Brighouse was amongst a number of residents who wrote to
the council objecting to the application by Green Endings boss,
Roslyn Cassidy, to convert the shed in Oakford Road into a mortuary.
Councillors granted planning permission at a planning meeting
in February. Ms Cassidy, who operates her funeral service from
Fortess Road, Tufnell Park, said the judicial review was an
issue for planning chiefs, rather than her.
She said: “They would be taking Camden to court, not me.
They are very welcome to do that if that is what they want to
do.”
“The shed did not break any regulations – that’s
part of the misinformation that has been put out about this
application. We got complete clearance from Camden on the build.” |
