Letters to the Editor

We need more cops to solve drug problem

• The chaos surrounding the imminent ban on the legitimate sale of legal goods termed ‘drugs paraphernalia’ is typical of the council’s incoherent and knee-jerk approach to tackling drugs.
It is understandable that council officers have no definitive list stating what can and can’t be sold – as the council has no definitive idea as to what this latest publicity stunt will do to tackle the drugs market in Camden.
The reason we can’t have plain-clothed police on Camden High Street arresting those that offer them drugs – surely the clearest signal we could send that drug dealing is not acceptable here – is that we don’t have enough police.
Why won’t the Labour leaders of the council confront this, the real problem and the only solution – and end their obsession with media-friendly politics?
