Have-a-go lifeguard Glyn Roberts
Runner goes extra mile to catch mugger

A HEATH lifeguard training for the London Marathon tackled a knife-waving mugger after chasing him to Kentish Town.
Glyn Roberts, 37, was at the Parliament Hill running track after a gruelling 10-mile run round Hampstead Heath on Tuesday when he heard the mugging alert on his radio.
Mr Roberts sprinted to the footbridge leading to Savernake Road, where he saw the two muggers.
He said: “I had just been running for an hour-and-a-half and it was dark. I saw the two men and shouted at them to wait.”
But when he confronted the men, one brandished a flick-knife and the other threw a bike in his direction.
He chased one of the men, who ran towards Kentish Town. Mr Roberts said: “He was a fit young lad and I’d just run 10 miles. At one point he stopped and looked back but I was still after him.”
He finally caught up with the mugger in Queen’s Crescent. Two 17-year-olds were later arrested and bailed to return to a north London police station later this month.
Paul Maskell, leisure events manager at the Heath, said: “We are extremely proud of his efforts. It shows we have a caring and reliable workforce.”
Mr Roberts was hailed a hero in 2001 after breaking up a knife attack at Parliament Hill Lido. He still has scars from the knife wounds.
