Letters to the Editor

We're proud it's called Archway

• I refer you to your item regarding the proposed re-naming of Archway Tube Station to South Highgate.
I have lived in Archway for nearly 30 years and I know, and other residents know, that Archway is a working-class area and we all accept that.
The area is multi-cultural and all different nationalities seem to have integrated very well over the years.
I feel that this proposal is just an act of complete snobbery. Highgate is Highgate and Archway is upper Holloway.
Re-naming Archway Mall: Dick Whittington Square, yes, but not Karl Marx Square. My suggestion to Chris Roche is to mind his own business and leave Archway station as it is.
We who live in this area mostly like it as it is and would not want to be associated with a re-naming of a traditional station name.
Finally, I feel that those behind this idea hope to make a profit by re-naming station, as they hope property prices will rise.
