Politicians have to represent us

• COUNCILLOR John Mills (Don’t judge us by standards of Blair, February 16) clearly foresees that Labour is going to take a pasting at the local elections in May.
He claims Camden Council has an excellent record, while everything that goes wrong is the government’s fault.
Cllr Mills’s excuse is that the Labour government has followed a policy of “relentless centralisation” steadily diminishing the capacity of local councils to take decisions, yet he concludes: “A Labour vote in the local elections is a vote for local democracy.”
What piffle. Until Labour stooges are replaced by politicians willing to represent residents’ views, local democracy hereabouts will remain hopelessly shackled.

• Councillor John Mills brags about his accomplishments (Don’t judge us by standards of Blair, February 16.)
He deludes himself if he thinks he has done a good job for Camden. Anyone could make the books balance if they sell the family silver everytime they run out of cash.
