Jackson back in the thick of it for first-team
place
Squeezed-out midfielder
vows to work hard to impress manager
TOTTENHAM’S forgotten man, Camden-raised Johnnie Jackson,
has vowed to fight for his place after making a shock return
to the first-team squad after 18 months in the reserves.
Jackson (left), who comes from Holborn, found himself squeezed
out following the signings of Aaron Lennon, Andy Reid and Wayne
Routledge.
The 23-year-old midfielder had been linked with a move to Watford
during the transfer window.
But injuries and the January sales have given him another chance
to prove himself at the club he joined as a schoolboy.
Jackson was in the squad for the defeat against Fulham and replaced
the injured Lennon in the 3-1 victory against Charlton on Sunday.
He told the New Journal: “It was great to get back and
get some first-team football, especially with the result we
achieved.”
Jackson said he had enjoyed playing in front of the home crowd
at White Hart Lane again.
And he added: “I was pleased with my performance and will
keep working hard to try to impress the manager and stay in
the first-team picture.”
Jackson scored a wonder goal from 30 yards against Charlton
last term but found his chances limited since then and was loaned
out to Derby County earlier this season.
But he won a vote of confidence from head coach Martin Jol following
a tenacious display on Sunday.
Jol said: “I was pleased with Jackson – he hasn’t
played in the first team for 18 months and he did well to come
in.” |
