Grooves

I ONCE heard Neil Young played one of his new albums from start to finish at a gig a few years ago and when he finished, he played the whole thing over again – self-indulgent or just generous to his fans?
So when Green Day played under their alter ego Foxboro Hot Tubs, at a surprise gig at Relentless Garage on Sunday, they managed to outdo him – playing Stop, Drop and Roll a grand total of six times!

• Next year’s Camden Crawl launched with a bang on Wednesday – see our review in next week’s Grooves.

• They’re at it again. Bigga Fish, those experts in (alcohol-free) mash-up parties for under-18s have organised a huge bonfire night party at the Roundhouse (Nov 7). Donaeo, Crazy Cousinz, Bashy, Ghetts, Devlin, Nu Brand Flexxx and Zest are all on the bill – £10 adv, more on the door.

• Their latest guerilla gig was on the roof of Starbucks, Camden Lock, But if you want to catch Camden rock/ska/reggae six-piece Rough Science in a slightly warmer venue see them at Dusk till Dawn, Archway (Nov 13).

• One of my favourite pubs, The Queen’s Head, on Essex Road, is still attracting stellar guest turntablists. Snow Patrol’s launch party for album Late Night Tales will feature the band’s Tom and Gary on the decks, joined by Belle and Sebastian (Nov 13) – free before 8pm.

• We’ve done Underground Rebel Bingo, but have you heard of Lord Sinclair’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Bingo? Head down to the Lexington, Pentonville Road (Nov 17).
l Don’t forget Carter USM at The Forum (Nov 13) – The Drum Machine Years will feature tracks from their first four albums.
