London Jazz Festival November 13-22 - preview

THE rude health of jazz in north London will be on display again next month when numerous venues will host sessions as part of the London Jazz Festival.
Approaching one-fifth of LJF events are to be held in north London venues (see listings). Most attention will focus on performances by such legendary American jazz players as Sonny Rollins and Branford Marsalis.
But the LJF’s real strength lies in the diversity of talent and its wide reach throughout London.
The nine-day festival opens on Friday November 13.
The Forge in Camden Town is cementing its reputation as an important jazz venue by hosting seven sessions, including multi-instrumentalist and charismatic singer Michael Mwenso on the 19th.
Kings Place in York Way will be hosting a four-day residency by maverick Italian piano maestro Stefano Bollani, starting on the 18th. Red Hedgehog on the Archway Road has two top piano players, Zoe Rahman on the 14th and John Law on the 19th.
Green Note at the top of Parkway, Camden Town, has three sessions – Trish Clowes’ Tangent plus Neon Ballroom on the 15th; the Twelves Trio a day later on the 16th; and The Green Man in Euston Road has Tony Coe on the 17th, Martin Shaw on the 18th and Stan Sulzmann on the 20th.
Jazz Café has New Cool Collective on the 13th; Omar Puente on the 17th; Get the Blessing on the 19th; Polar Bear plus Troyka on the 20th; and, to wrap it up, Hamel on the 21st.
Lauderdale House on Highgate Hill will have the ever-popular Carol Grimes on the 19th.
