ELECTRIC Proms is here again, when BBC mixologists throw together old and new legends, orchestras, strings and choirs to see what cocktail will result from the ensuing concoction.
Africa Express was wicked last year – we haven’t seen this year’s full line-up but if it’s on again it’s the one to be at. So far we know soul legend Smokey Robinson will be performing his classics with the BBC Concert Orchestra, and Dizzee Rascal is jamming with the Heritage Orchestra’s 16-piece string section. Doves, Florence and the Machine and Metronomy are also on the bill.

* Go on admit it, don’t be embarrassed, we’ve all done it, and now you can do it in Camden too. Hairbrush Heroes launches at the Jazz Cafe on October 16 for all those wannabe rockstars who don’t want those years of singing and posing in front of the mirror to go to waste.

* Band scouts for Levi’s Ones to Watch usually know what they’re talking about so I’m looking forward to October’s London residencies. There’s psychedelic synth-pop kings Citadels, Camden Town’s Ou Est le Swimming Pool and Dansette Junior at The Macbeth on October 8, ex-Mumm-Ra frontman James New with new band Mirrors, Young Rebel Set and Turboweekend, at Barfly on October 15, and Kurran and the Wolfnotes, Exlovers and Little Death at The Borderline on October 22.

* Frank Turner and hand-picked fellow musicians present a one-off a festive feast of folk/punk and acoustic music at Islington’s Union Chapel on December 19.

* There’s another chance to hear Gossip’s new album Music for Men at Kentish Town’s Forum on November 28.
