DETROIT SOCIAL CLUB
Sunshine People

IT’S impossible to avoid the obvious Kasabian comparison but this is not a bad thing.
Detroit Social Club’s single Sunshine People, out on March 30, has all the makings of a Kasabian hit – huge sounds, heavy marching beats, regimented male backing chants, Madchester electrics and a large dose of northern soul.
Where they differ is in terms of approach: while Kasabian lead with unforgettable riffs, and unpredictable structures, Sunshine People go for deep, compelling lead vocals from frontman David Burn, grounded in a more traditional song format.
The repeated chants of “watch the rain ride over me” add a ritualistic folky edge, more suited to guerillas around a campfire the night before the revolution – and all this from a bunch of Geordies.
