WHO remembers Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine?
I thought they disintegrated years ago, but old Jim Bob and Fruitbat are playing The Forum in November. If you need a fix before then, Fruitbat plays Liberties tomorrow (Friday) as bluegrass/ skiffle alter ego Uncle Fruity. The things Carter USM have to answer for – the boys from my school nicknamed our science teacher “Derek Fatman” in a “witty” homage to Sheriff Fatman.

• Pete Doherty was spotted enjoying a few pints at the Assembly House in Kentish Town last Friday, not on any musical mission, just catching up with old mates. Wonder what he’s working on now?

• I’m looking forward to my screen idol Joaquin Phoenix’s reincarnation as a bearded hip-hop star. It’s all very cloak and dagger. I just hope it’s all true as I’m waiting to propose next time he comes to London.

•Apparently, Camden’s finest, N-Dubz, have inspired a mum to call her daughter “My name’s Shaniqua and what” – yes, an entire song lyric from Haverstock’s eloquent rappers.

• I’ve received so many CDs and there’s so little time. Here’s two of the best: The Maccabees’ No Kind Words – dry, grey, unsmiling and I love it. Royal Family Divorce by Storsveit Nix Noltes – weird Bulgarian/Balkan folk, proper festival music.
