REVIEW: FIGHT LIKE APES
Barfly

GIVEN their strong synth-punky songs, the slow start to Fight Like Apes’ set at the Barfly was a bit surprising.
There was more than a scent of prog rock or even Pink Floyd circa 1974 about the lengthy keyboard noodling.
It was certainly a change of pace from the fast and incredibly loud support from Untitled Music Project.
And despite regularly and enthusiastically invading the slightly apathetic crowd, Fight Like Apes took a bit of time to get going.
They did deliver on songs like summer single Jake Summers, the shimmering Something Global and Lend Me Your Face.
Best of all, though, was their raunchy version of Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues, by Welsh punks McClusky (a band who perfected short, sweet,
non-noodling songs.)
A last thought – Fight Like Apes have the most amazing hair in music. Synthist Pockets has a beard and shaggy long hair, bassist Tom could be Phil Lynott’s grandson, and singer MayKay has wild black flowing locks.
This gig was part of the Levi’s OneToWatch Tour, but a shampoo sponsor might save them some money next time round.
