Bach to St John’s in Downshire Hill
for a chaconne dance

PREVIEW: THE BACH PLAYERS
St John's Downshire Hill

THE Bach Players start their second year of concerts at St John’s Downshire Hill, Hampstead, on Monday with one of the largest projects in the history of the group: Every one a chaconne.

A line-up of 16 world-class musicians play a programme centred on the chaconne, a much-loved dance form of the 17th and 18th centuries.
The three Purcell pieces include the famous Lament from Dido and Aeneas. Two contrasting cantatas by JS Bach will be performed: BWV150 is said to be Bach’s earliest surviving cantata, while BWV78 was composed in Leipzig at the height of his career.
This month also sees the Bach Players release their first CD, Bach Arranging and Arranged, in conjunction with Kentish Town book publisher, Hyphen Press. The CD was recorded earlier this year at St Michael’s church in Highgate.
The Bach Players perform on Monday at St John’s Church, Downshire Hill, NW3, 8pm. www. thebachplayers.org.uk
