The Review - MUSIC - grooves with ROISIN GADELRAB

Grooves

I’D HEARD a big American band would open the Little Noise Sessions and I knew The Killers were in town so I did the maths and hoped.
But I still couldn’t believe it when they strolled out in front of the pulpit to open the Sessions on Saturday.
Shame then that Brandon Flowers et al only played three songs, and wasted one of them on a good version of a not-so-good song – Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”. Still, it was a brilliant surprise and made my night before it had even begun.
• Raid the attic and dig out the old vinyls, Bring Your Parents’ Records is at Bar Vinyl from next Sunday (November 23). Bring the old 45s and you can play them yourself. Celeb offspring band Belakiss will also DJ with band members Veronica Avant, daughter of ex-The Who and Oasis drummer Zak Starkey, and Ruari Meehan, son of The Shadows’ drummer Tony, plundering their family collections.
• A quick mention to Proud, who’ve got New Young Pony Club to DJ at the launch of their Bangers and Mash Ring My Bell night tomorrow (Friday).
• Last week I said the Hawley Arms was losing its tabloid crown after Pete Doherty played at the Monarch – but it has fought back. Razorlight played the pub’s roof on Friday night to preview third album, Slipway Fires. Landlords, email me your “secret” gigs!
• Saw James Bond at the Vue cinema this week – they are trying out this thing where only over-18s can go to some screenings. I quite like the Alicia Keys/Jack White theme tune – what do you think is the greatest Bond tune?
