The Review - MUSIC - grooves with ROISIN GADELRAB

Grooves

IF I have to wrestle one more CD out of its impossible shrinkwrap, the Record of the Week spot is going to die a sudden death. So after climbing my way out from under a mountain of CDs I’ve worked out a filtering system:
1. If the CD is easy to open it stands a much higher chance of being reviewed.
2. If the cover is too scary, it may be destined to sit on this paper’s shelves.
3. If it’s from an unsigned act, it goes to the top of the pile (not heard from enough of you yet).
This week I’ve chosen Nitin Sawhney’s London Undersound. He plays the Electric Proms next Friday.
Keep the records coming, and I’ll do my best to listen. Feel free to point out your best tracks.
Out and about in town this week, it was time for a bit of modern northern poetry on Tuesday night, at the screening of the Arctic Monkeys’ documentary Live at the Apollo at the Vue, Islington.
Proud hosted a special appearance from The View and, on Wednesday, Little Man Tate dropped by.
Halloween is fast approaching so I’d suggest snapping up tickets for Together’s Halloween Horror show at the Scala on Saturday, October 25. The line-up includes The Horrors, CSS and Foals, all hitting the decks, along with Hannah Holland, Streetlife DJs and Deadly Rhythm Club.
