We've said a lot about Kentish Town's reggae hero Eddy Grant over the past couple of weeks so I'll keep it brief

THE smiling one brought sunshine and cheers to the Jazz Cafe on Friday as he rifled through his back catalogue of favourites, hits, calypso, reggae and traditional African sounds, bouncing off audience requests.
Skipping from I Don't Wanna Dance, to War Party, Walking on Sunshine to Living on the Frontline and Electric Avenue, while dredging up tracks from his life in Nigeria and Trinidad, Eddy's eternally joyous show left his fans with a skip in their step.
Contortionist of the week points go to the large hatted one who played his guitar with his teeth, his feet and his backside in an impressive display of body control.
Eddy's last album Reparation got a good show, and he ended with a surprise turn from his original band The Equals, who were in the audience to show their support.
Visibly taken by surprise, and totally unprepared the three members of the Equals were cajoled onstage for the finale performance of Gimme Hope Jo'anna to rapturous cheers.
