ANOTHER New Year’s Eve over, another recovery period, and no snow.
Although I can live without the second, I’m glad the former is over with and I am now able to venture out once more.
But rather than suggest a dash-across- town, up-till-late affair, I’ll make it easy for all would-be party people.
Why not head to the Hawley Arms in Camden Town? (Provided you’re of age, of course.)
Despite becoming known as something of a celebrity magnet – and, worse yet, becoming popular for it – The Hawley Arms has launched itself into 2008 with far loftier ambitions.
The pub, set opposite the Stables market in Castlehaven Road, is launching its own record label, Bumpman, named after one of the pub’s co-owner’s DJ moniker, and originally a Northern Soul track.
The pub couldn’t be better placed to launch such a label.
A well-known hang- out for the best acts in Camden – Amy Winehouse and Razorlight, to name a few – all the publicans need to do is hang around the toilets listening to people sing while they’re whizzing.
Of course, X-Factor style auditions are another option, as is just getting to know their clientele.
But in the light of my ridiculous suggestions, it makes sense that Bumpman has got its feet firmly on the ground.
The first record launched will be by Brute Chorus, featuring none other than the pub’s barman James Steel.
Far more sensible.
