Lily Allen

A YEAR is a long time in popland. And to prove that, look at where two of this year’s biggest stars started from and ended up.
Lets start with Lily Allen, Islington’s poppiest starlet. She breaks out with Alright, Still, and everyone loves her, straight away. Good album, so they should. Then she goes through some kind of army-inspired diet, skinnies up, and boom – comes out the other side a full-on label-lovin’ popstar and must-have name at any fashion party. Oh, and now she’s pregnant too – all in a year.
Crikey. I wonder how my grass is growing...
Second up is obviously Camden’s very own Amy Winehouse. And, my my, she’s been through a lot since I saw her last September at the launch of what went on to be the most successful album of the year, Back To Black.
She breaks up with Alex the chef – boom, has a number 1 – and gets back together with that Fielder-Civil bloke – boom, album goes number 1 – he gets arrested and jailed – she cracks America – she gets arrested – cracks up. All in a year.
These popstars live a bright-burning life.
She was a lovely girl when I met her. I’m sure she still is.
