Is Winehouse back on track?

THERE’S no doubt that Amy Winehouse has had an eventful year: much-publicised personal problems, on-stage and off-duty antics mixed up with critical and commercial acclaim.
But has her off-stage behaviour threatened her popularity as the new Queen of retro Pop? No, no, no! The award-winning soulstress has taken to the road for another European tour to celebrate the success of her sophomore album, Back to Black, and now it’s time for her homecoming.
With tickets snapped up within days of going on sale, fans will be flocking to see the fiery chanteuse unleash her own brand of soul and dark pop with gospel-tinged vocals. The success of Back to Black, the follow-up to 2003’s Frank, has cemented Amy’s status as Britain’s premier female vocalist.
Much of Back To Black was produced by Salaam Remi and current man-of-the-moment Mark Ronson, and it marked a change in direction from the jazz-led Frank.
Winehouse has a treasure trove of hits to delve into, so crowd-pleaser’s won’t be hard to muster. Let’s hope she performs current top-ten hit Valerie, as well as the Ivor Novello award-winning Stronger Than Me.
Highlights should also include modern-day anthem Rehab, the hauntingly autobiographical Back to Black, and the achingly brilliant Love Is A Losing Game.
Fans and critics alike will look forward to this, and the other London dates, to see if Amy can hold it together and deliver a knockout performance. I’m sure she will.
