Dionne Warwick
Sixties icon Warwick sure to entertain with the hits

PREVIEW: DIONNNE WARWICK
Shaw Theatre

NOT many people go down in history these days. Right Said Fred? Oasis? Kula Shaker?
Footnotes maybe, a ‘cool’ addition to a record collection possibly, but not legends.
Legend is a word chucked around, but starting tomorrow (Friday), a genuine icon from the ’60s begins a two-week residency in London. Dionne Warwick – now also known as Whitney Houston’s cousin – will be singing songs from a career that has spanned four decades, and will treat the audience to a selection of memories about her life.
She could begin with the gig that established her – Paris, 1963, supporting Marlene Dietrich – or maybe she’ll tell you about her relationship with enduring songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
She might even bitch about Blind Date queen Cilla Black, who Warwick was allegedly furious with for re-recording her hits for a UK audience back in the day.
She will definitely sing you a clutch of her 60-something hits, including Do You Know the Way to San Jose, Anyone who had a heart and Walk On By.
