The Review - Music - grooves with CHARLOTTE CHAMBERS
Published: 2 November 2006

Demo of the Week
The Make

FIRST the Arctic Monkeys arrive, as if by magic, through a special reality/cyberspace vortex, all roughly 17 and a bit spotty.
Unbelievably, less than a year ago, we’d never heard Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor.
And so it could be for ‘keeping it in the family’ fourpiece The Make, who hail from our very own Kentish Town, and who are certainly ‘on the make’.
Three brothers and a cousin, they play music you’ve heard a hundred times before, and they’re still not that tight – they only formed this summer.
But, there’s something there. Whether it’s the lyrics, or the electrifying guitar crashing wee-wah bit at the end of Guilt and a Gun, or the slight off-kilter delivery of Fall From Your Sleep, these lads are talented.
Catch them at your local soon, or trek across town to catch them at someone else’s – they could be the next Monkeys.

• If you want your demo reviewed, please send it in to Grooves, 40 Camden Road, London NW1 9DR.
