The Review - grooves with CHARLOTTE CHAMBERS
Published: 5 October 2006

Demo of the Week
THE WOMBATS

LOVEABLE Liverpudlians – aren’t they all – with an admittedly stupid name, The Wombats have the largest tour line-up I’ve ever seen for an unsigned band, with gigs spanning from here to eternity, and even taking in Scandinavia.
A three-piece shouty pop outfit who sound like a troupe of sumo-wrestlers couldn’t hold them back from their destiny – which would have been a top slot on Top of the Pops for sure – they are all set to dazzle at the Dublin Castle on Tuesday.
Somewhat shockingly, the Guardian lost all control and described them as bigger than the Rolling Stones.
Their first single, Lost in the Post, was voted best of the week by label-guru Rough Trade, and also found airplay on XFM and Radio one.
They release their second single, Moving to New York, through Kids on November 13.

• If you want your demo reviewed, please send it in to Grooves, 40 Camden Road, London NW1 9DR.
