Lupe Fiasco
Lupe Fiasco hits our shores at last

PREVIEW: LUP FIASCO
Islington Academy

HAVING found it rather cold standing in Kanye West’s and Jay-Z’s shadow, Lupe Fiasco has finally emerged to take on the wide world of international hip hop on his own – and rightly so.

Heralded as rap’s “best kept secret‚” by no less than über-producer Jay Z, and cited as one of Rolling Stone’s top 10 Artists to Watch 2006, Fiasco embarks upon his first trip to British shores to play an intimate show at the Islington Academy (his gig at the Scala was cancelled after the shooting of a clubber two weeks ago.)
Appearing all too briefly on Kanye West’s single Touch The Sky, Fiasco enlisted the help of big-name producers Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, Jay Z, and Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda to aid him on his debut album Lupe Fiasco’s Food and Liquor.
The album shot to number one on the iTunes download chart before hitting the dizzying heights of number eight on America’s Billboard chart in its first week of release.
Fiasco is now looking to reproduce the mainstream success already achieved in America and establish himself as one of hip-hop’s heavyweights.
His refreshingly original style blends a passion for jazz with more familiar rap stylings, resulting in tracks which are as equally at home on a Groove Armada album as on the Shaft soundtrack.
Definitely not to be missed.
