The Review - grooves with CHARLOTTE CHAMBERS

Demo of the Week
BLACK JACKSON

IF you’re of a childish disposition, then head down to see Bury band Black Jackson because they’re handing out badges.
But, if you’re more of a muso type, then they could well be worth checking out when they play the Dublin Castle on October 22.
A straightforward four piece (guitar, bass, drums and singer), they do it all, according to bassist Jonathan Pilling.
Don’t Revolve, a song on their new three-track demo, starts off jangly guitars and hooky basslines and drives along like that until lead singer, Alex Kowalczuk suddenly starts shouting like a maniac.
It’s the best song I’ve heard for ages – make that band. I’m not the only one who likes them either: although unsigned, they’ve toured with The Spin Doctors, played with Pete Doherty, The Undertones and The Animals, while producer extraordinaire, John Mackie – he of Radiohead’s The Bends and all the Stone Roses stuff – said he thought they had “something.” High praise indeed.

• Do you want your demo reviewed? Please send it in to Grooves, Camden New Journal, 40 Camden Road, London NW1 9DR.
