REVIEW - STANTON WARRIORS FEATURING SWAY
Get Em High

IS there anything this boy can’t do? Releases his debut album, This is My Demo, on his own label, Dcypha Productions, gets nominated for a Mercury prize, wins a MOBO (beating 50 Cent into the bargain) and keeps his head.
You only have to listen once to Sway’s latest single, a collaboration with dance masters Stanton Warriors, to know it’s a hit: “I’ve never been much of a Romeo/But ’nuff girls always wanna hold me yo/ And hop on the thing like a rodeo.”
Not forgetting the Stanton Warriors who’ve specialised in a party break beat for years, and were one of the first dance acts to use MCs on their tunes.
But it’s Hornsey-born Sway who makes this ’80s-sounding track feel as fresh as a drink of water the morning after the night before.
And he even manages to be cool with the kids despite being a hit with the grown-ups (for dissing unprotected sex and guns in clubs) – that’s something Nice Guy Will Smith never could do.
With the catchiest chorus since Skeelo’s I Wish I was a Little Bit Taller, this is cool.
Get Em High is out on V2 Records on September 18, while Sway plays the Mean Fiddler on Saturday October 21.
