Play day: Lord Mayor joins 3,000 children

MORE than 3,000 children descended on Regent’s Park on Wednesday for a fun-packed “play day”.
Among them was 16-month-old Julian, pictured left, the Lord Mayor of Westminster, Duncan Sandys.
Sheep-shearing, ferret-racing and falcon displays were just some of the free activities on offer. Clowns, magicians and stilt-walkers gave children the chance to try out their circus skills, while local artists and staff from Tate Britain were at the Hub helping with costumes workshops. There was glass-painting, jewellery-making, trampolining, crazy golf, go-karting and African music and dancing.
The London-wide Play Day event was organised by the City Council.
Councillor Mark Page, cabinet member for children’s services and young people, said: “Play is such an important part of all children’s lives and needs to be actively encouraged to help young people learn about themselves and the world around them while developing confidence, self-esteem and creativity.”
