West End Extra - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 16 November 2007

Five-a-side pitch battle over park

• IT was an eye-opener to read Margaret Hodge’s admission that the government is forcing the Royal Parks to increase its income by 10 per cent each year (Park pitches bid needs schools backing, November 9), since the Royal Parks are regularly denying that the soulless scheme to build artificial five-a-side pitches over parkland has anything to do with boosting revenue.
This denial always was unconvincing and has now been totally undermined.
It makes it even more ironic that Royal Parks have lost out on about £20,000 of income by closing the Golf and Tennis School prematurely!
If like me and many others your readers are against cutting down trees and building on meadowland, another way to register your protest is to sign my online petition to the Prime Minister at www.petitions.pm.gov.uk/savethetrees

Treasurer, Westminster Liberal Democrats
