FIONA BEVAN
The Balance

BLUR bassist Alex James loved this girl when she first auditioned for the Orange Unsigned Acts competition this year.
If you’ve been watching the Channel 4 search for the next big thing you’ll have seen Kentish Town singer-songwriter Fiona enchant the judges with her cheeky smile, Annie-esque blonde afro and sweet but not saccharine jazz/folk voice.
She was promptly put through to the next round – helped by entranced judge Alex – but on Sunday sadly failed to make it to the tour stage.
Fiona launched her new single The Balance at the Luminaire, Kilburn, on Tuesday – a melodic, wistful love song, reaching for the high notes of Joni Mitchell but a little softer.
And from listening to her MySpace page, it’s clear this not the end of this girl.
