The Review - MUSIC - grooves with CHARLOTTE CHAMBERS Published: 6 Decemebr 2007
AS it is now December it is ok to mention Christmas. While it’s been blaring out on the radio and tv for months – I hate that – it is officially now the party season. And it is also the time for classical music to move into the pop world.
While this is usually the preserve of my colleague, classical music correspondent Tony Kiely, during the festive season it has to get a mention over here too.
And the show to see takes place next Sunday at the Dublin Castle in Parkway.
It is the first time a classical concert has been staged at the legendary indie venue in Camden Town, and publican Henry Conlon has hired a baby grand piano especially for the occasion.
Pianist Aglaia Tarantino, an in-demand musician who studied at the Royal Academy of Music, and her opera singing pal Caterina Argese – a household name in Italy – are booked in for the 2pm show.
But as if that wasn’t enough of a reason to go, Henry is also donating all the money taken on the door to the Camden Journal Hamper Fund (and paying for the piano from his own pocket).
To buy tickets, priced at £10, visit the pub or Bugbear Discs record shop next door.
You can also send cheques payable to Camden Journal Hamper Fund to 40 Camden Road, London NW1 9DR.
