The Review - MUSIC - grooves with CHARLOTTE CHAMBERS Published: 3 May 2007
CRIKEY, what a lot of legends in one place (Camden, obviously).
Last week it was Ike Turner at the Jazz Café, this week it’s Van ‘Astral Weeks’ Morrison at the Roundhouse. You might as well pitch a tent and wait for them to blow in.
Now if you’re bushed after the Morrison gig and just want to chill out a bit, have a cocktail and some food, Sunday’s at Bar Eclipse in West End Lane could be the place to do it.
Although I haven’t been down there myself yet, I’m told by local boy and resident DJ Ed Adoo that he and the managers have big plans to reshape West Hamsptead as the place to be on a Sunday – although they’ll be hard pushed to wrest the crown from the Lock Tavern in Chalk Farm, who had The Bees dj-ing there last week. Look out for an interview with Mr Adoo next week.
Another local star looking like she could hit the big time is Kentish Town girl Ny, real name Nyomi Gray, who is on the brink of chart success with her second mix tape Split Endz Volume Two and her new single Fire. Again, interview with her soon.
Having met her last year – when she did a homecoming gig in Queen’s Crescent and stole the show – she seemed like a genuinely nice and down to earth girl with the right attitude and most importantly, a great voice.
