The Review - MUSIC - grooves with CHARLOTTE CHAMBERS Published: 26 April 2007
I HAVE to admit I wasn’t looking forward to the Crawl. It seemed like an evening looming large of queuing, chips, and drunken idiots spilling their drinks on me. But I have to admit, my anticipation was all wrong. It was a great night. You’ll never get that amount of stars, unknown acts, and the semi-famous all together for two nights – all partying under a collective roof, no snobbery – like you do at the Crawl. And seeing how enthusiastic everyone was to be there, no-matter their chart-ranking, believing in the night, was memorable.
I would like to see the Crawl get bigger though. I think it should be for one day, close the roads, and make it a proper festival with food stalls lining the street, live acts dotted along the pavement, and the possibility of forgetting you’re in London. It should be all or nothing.
But all credit to the bravery of the organisers – it’s the third Crawl after a few years’ hiatus, it spells out in bold the importance Camden holds for the music scene and breaking new acts.
Hope you took your rubbish home with you.
And in other news – Man Like Me, who I featured in last weeks paper, seems to be all over the place, gigging like it’s going out of season. First up he’s at Madame Jojo’s in Soho on Tuesday May 1, and then two days later they’re at Fabric supporting Liverpudlian former-Demo of the Weekers The Wombats. Finger on the pulse?
Furthermore Mr Ti2bs, MC-extraordinaire, is playing on Friday April 27 at Bar Rumba – so Get Down.
