Brodsky quartet tread in more gentle waters

THE BRODSKY QUARTET

LSO St luke’s

THE Brodsky Quartet is one of the most ambitious in Britain, recording a particularly wide range of work, from Beethoven, to Janacek, to Tchaikovsky and Britten.
The quartet have collaborated with Elvis Costello, Sir Paul McCartney and Dave Brubeck, exploring the relationship between pop and classical music.
They are made up of Andrew Haveron and Ian Belton on violin, Paul Cassidy on viola and cellist Jacqueline Thomas.
This week, however, they are doing something slightly more sedate, appearing at LSO St Luke’s, in Old Street, for the Radio Three Lunchtime Concert where they will perform Samuel Barb’s String Quartet Op 11 and Schubert’s wonderful String Quartet in A Minor.
LSO St Luke’s is a terrific venue, a restored Hawskmoor church that has become the second home of the London Symphony Orchestra, after the Barbican.
The range of music and events presented is huge and impossible to pigeon hole so is a venue always worth keeping an eye on.
So if you have an hour free on Thursday lunchtime, the Brodsky Quartet would be an excellent way to be introduced to the venue.
