KIARA SCURO
WHENEVER I press the volume button on my computer the CD ejects. It’s an old computer. It’s a pain.
But when I accidentally turned the sound down while listening to Kiara Scuro’s debut demo, I didn’t mind so much when the CD popped out.
It’s true, the three guys, two guitars and one drum combo did hurt my head a little.
Alt Rock, whatever you wanna call it, has to be well balanced between voice and guitar or the vocals sound like they’re coming from the inside of a milk bottle – an affliction on Scuro’s offering.
The best tune is Stasis, but its line “guess you’ve heard it all before, guess I’m gonna fade away” is closer than they know.
This demo is lacking inventiveness and originality, and although in snatches it really works – sounding momentous, particularly at the end of Stasis – the songs would be found in every variety of bargain basement bin. Buck up the songwriting and ditch the theatrical singing. |
