Much better the Kylie you know
REVIEW : KYLIE
Wembley Arena
by Mairi Macdonald
IN a flurry of feathers and sequins the pop princess who had fans worried for a while that her touring days were over, returned with a smile as wide as Wembley Arena.
Kylie’s comeback after beating cancer made it one of her most anticipated tours, which must have reached fever pitch on the night of the New Year’s Eve show.
Lapping up the rapturous standing ovation, Kylie looked more diminutive diva than princess.
The concert kicked off with old favourite, Better The Devil You Know, in which she stalked elegantly across the stage, an enormous headpiece swaying precariously on top of her cropped curls. “Ever get the feeling you’re being watched,” the star joked, her easy quips and chat revealing a new confidence in herself.
White Diamond, co-written with the Scissor Sisters, in which she took it an octave or two higher, got a cautious reception but by the second time around for the chorus it had all come together.
No surprise that thecostumes were spectacular and her dancers’ distractingly tiny outfits showed that if nothing else, Kylie knows her fans even better than they know her.
