Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 24 December 2008

Green stuff for the park

• I SUPPOSE it shouldn’t surprise me when the Lib Dems cheat Islington residents yet again. This time we have an X-Factor-style “bid” for funding to pay for “improvements” to a park in the borough.
The idea of having to “vote” for which park gets improved is bad enough, but it also diverts attention away from the history of improvements to Barnard Park.
About four years ago, the Lib Dem administration sold off a strip of the park along Copenhagen Street, claiming that the money received from the sale would pay for “improvements” to the park. The strip of land was sold for £1.5million, some flats were then built overlooking the park, and no “improvements” ever materialised.
Residents have been reduced to “bidding” for money from Boris, when a much greater sum of money has been collected in the Lib-Dems’ coffers for the same purpose.
