Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 12 December 2008

On counter attack

• LABOUR MP Emily Thornberry recently said in the Tribune that she welcomes the government’s decision to keep the Post Office card account operating as it does now. Perhaps she can explain why she did not bother to vote on the Post Office card account motion that went to Parliament on November 10?
While it’s good that the accounts are staying with the Post Office, this decision has come too late to save the 13 post offices that have already closed in Islington.
The government must stop putting pressure on pensioners like me and benefit claimants to get their cash paid through banks. People should have the choice to use their local post office and the Liberal Democrats will continue to lead the fight against post office closures in Islington.
