Lost in the post... again
• AS a student in the 60s I did the Christmas post several times and was always impressed by the pride the postmen took, often managing to deliver a letter with most of the address missing.
I just wonder what is happening to Royal Mail now. I had already sent a letter complaining about so many things, among them lost photographs and another lot delivered to the wrong address. I was lucky on that occasion the postmen took the trouble to bring them to me. A few months ago a whole packet of redirected letters was delivered wrongly to me. This is not to mention the absence of a disc on pillar boxes or the presence of one indicating the wrong day.
This is important information if you have an urgent letter.
But I find the most recent incident unbelievable. More than four-and-a-half weeks ago a card was put through my door (I was in at the time) saying the postman had tried to deliver a package and that it had been returned to Mount Pleasant.
I went round the next day to collect it, my fears growing as the man at the desk was away for a long time. He told me the package could not be found. I spent a long time there, asking to speak to somebody in charge – it was a Friday and I was told nothing could be done till Monday.
So I expected a phone call... I waited and waited but nothing. After five days I wrote to them to ask why – still no reply, no phone call, no explanation.
They have still completely ignored what has happened. I have since written to the Royal Mail customer service centre in Glasgow and received a not very satisfactory reply. I sent a copy of my letter to the manager at Mount Pleasant. Still nothing.
I wrote to my friend telling her about this and guess what... the letter never arrived.
