Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 4 July 2008

Cherish park gallery

• I AM writing to give my emphatic support to keep gallery:space open in Finsbury Park and to request that Haringey Council gives the gallery its full support.
It is a superb gallery, relevant to local people. It has a superb location by the children’s playground and near the café.
Exhibitions cater to everybody, not just aficionados of the arts. It is a unique jewel in Finsbury Park and I find it astonishing that it is under threat.
Haringey Council should be proud of it and be doing its best to promote it, but at the same time to leave it entirely independent.
It enhances mutual understanding among different communities and provides a unique, friendly, cross-cultural meeting space where people from all backgrounds chat and talk with each other about the exhibitions.
The volunteer staff, and those running the gallery, are friendly, enthusiastic and dedicated to the project.
The gallery has a truly community-centred, democratic and not-for-profit ethos that should be cherished.
No, I do not have any connection with the gallery other than being a regular visitor. My five-year-old daughter also loves visiting it. She has been intrigued by a number of exhibitions there.
