Arty bins spread
a little cheer

IT'S amazing what a tin of paint and few colourful designs can do for a group of old dustbins on an estate in Canonbury.
That’s what residents on the Sickert estate found when a group of industrial concept artists helped them transform 13 waste bins into works of public art.
Islington mayor Barbara Smith this week was among those congratulating those who contributed to the artwork which has brightened up a particularly bleak area of the estate.
Environmental charity Groundwork brought the residents and artists from London company Artmongers together to collaborate on creating the designs.
It’s part of the Groundwork’s Cleaner Estates Programme, which has been working with residents on 12 estates in Islington. The programme is funded by the Islington Strategic Partnership.
Stephen Beckett-Doyle, Cleaner Estates Programme manager at Groundwork says “Everyone had an opportunity to decide what designs they liked. The bins look really colourful and inviting. ”
